When the Stars Fall
Elena sat on the front porch, looking at the night sky. The stars twinkled above like little lights. Her grandfather, a retired sailor, joined her with two steaming cups of tea.
“You’ve got your head in the clouds again,” he said, smiling. “What are you thinking about?”
“I don’t know,” Elena said softly. “Life feels uncertain. I don’t know what to do next.”
Her grandfather nodded. “That’s normal. Life has many twists. But remember this—when the stars fall, you must pick yourself up and keep going.”
Elena frowned. “What do you mean?”
“When things don’t go as planned,” he explained. “When dreams seem far away, or life knocks you down. That’s when you find out what you are made of. You can give up or try again.”
Elena sighed. “It’s hard. At work, I try new ideas, but nothing works. I feel like I’m running in circles.”
Her grandfather chuckled. “I’ve been there. When I was at sea, storms made me think the ship would sink. But I learned calm seas never make a skilled sailor. Sometimes, you must face the storm and trust yourself.”
Elena whispered, “But what if I can’t?”
“Life isn’t about waiting for perfect moments,” he said kindly. “Use what you have. If one path fails, try a new one. Don’t cry over spilled milk.”
Elena thought about her sketches. Maybe she had been looking at things the wrong way. “What can I do to get back on track?” she asked.
“Start small,” her grandfather advised. “Go back to basics. Take one step at a time. Ask for help if you need it. Even strong sailors need a crew.”
Elena smiled. “Thanks, Grandpa. You always help me see clearly.”
The stars twinkled brighter. Elena felt motivated. She couldn’t control when the stars would fall, but she could decide how to respond.
“Looks like I’ve got work to do,” she said, standing.
Her grandfather grinned. “That’s the spirit. When the stars fall, it’s a chance to make your own light.”
Elena laughed, hugged him, and went inside, ready to take her first step forward.
