He glanced around. “I like the light color on the walls. It makes the room feel bigger.”

“Let’s keep the conversation light tonight,” she said. “No heavy topics.”
He smiled. “Agreed.”
Before heading out, she reached back and turned off the light.
“Ready,” she said.

She set her bag down beside the desk.
“I’m traveling light today,” she said.
A coworker laughed. “I wish I could say the same.”
Someone pointed up.
“That light is flickering again.”
“I’ll call maintenance,” she replied. “That ceiling light has been acting up all week.”
During the meeting, the manager smiled.
“Let’s keep this light,” she said. “We’ll save the serious stuff for later.”
As they wrapped up, a coworker said,
“You handled that light and professionally.”
She nodded. “That was the goal.”

A friend caught up to her.

She smiled. “Thanks.”
They paused near a café window glowing with warm light.
“Nice atmosphere,” he said.
“Yeah,” she replied. “Feels relaxed.”
They sat for a moment, chatting easily.
“I like keeping things light sometimes,” she said. “It makes the day easier.”
As they stood to leave, she glanced back.
“Did we turn off the light at the table?”
He nodded. “All set.”
