Mini Story 1 — At Home
She looked out the window and smiled.
“There’s a duck in the yard again,” she said.
He stepped outside just as a branch swung low.
“Whoa,” he said, quickly ducking out of the way.
She laughed. “Careful.”
The duck wandered closer, completely unbothered.
“I swear they think they own this place,” he said.
A moment later, the doorbell rang.
He glanced at the clock. “I’m not ready for company.”
She watched him head toward the back hallway.
“Are you really going to duck out?”
He grinned. “Just for a minute.”
Mini Story 2 — At Work
The conversation stopped suddenly.
“Did you hear that?” someone asked.
A coworker passed by carrying a box.
“Watch your head,” she said.
He ducked just in time as the door swung open.
“That was close.”
Later, during a break, someone pointed outside.
“There’s a duck by the entrance.”
Another coworker laughed. “That’s the third one this week.”
As the meeting wrapped up, a question came up.
He glanced at his phone and stood.
“I’ll let you all handle this. I need to duck out early.”
No one questioned it. They understood.
Mini Story 3 — In Public
They walked along the path near the water.
“Look,” she said. “A duck with her babies.”
He smiled, then suddenly ducked as a ball flew past.
“Did not see that coming.”
She laughed. “Good reflexes.”
A moment later, someone called his name from across the area.
He froze. “Oh no.”
She raised an eyebrow. “Problem?”
He sighed. “I wasn’t planning on running into them.”
Without making a scene, he turned down another path.
“I’m going to duck away before this gets awkward.”
She followed, still smiling.
“At least the duck didn’t chase us.”
