Here’s More on BAT
Mini Story 1 — At Home
He leaned the bat against the wall and kicked off his shoes.
“I thought I’d practice for a bit,” he said.
His partner looked up suddenly.
“Did you hear that?”
Before he could answer, something fluttered past the window.
“Was that a bat?” she asked.
He frowned. “Probably. One flew by the yard yesterday.”
She stepped back. “I can deal with the bat you swing, not the one that flies.”
He laughed, picking up the bat.
“Relax. This bat is the only one coming inside.”
Still, she glanced toward the window again.
“Just make sure that bat stays outside,” she said.
Mini Story 2 — At Work
The conversation drifted during lunch.
“Anyone doing anything active after work?” someone asked.
“I’m heading to the park,” he said. “Bringing my bat.”
A coworker raised an eyebrow. “You mean for practice… not because of that bat near the building last night?”
He smiled. “I heard about that. Someone saw a bat near the lights.”
Another coworker shook her head.
“I’ll stick to watching from a distance. Both kinds of bat make me nervous.”
Later that afternoon, someone joked,
“At least the only bat we deal with here is the one you swing.”
He laughed. “Let’s keep it that way.”
Mini Story 3 — In Public
The park was quiet except for the sound of a ball hitting wood.
“That bat sounds solid,” someone said from a nearby bench.
He nodded, adjusting his grip.
“Feels good today.”
Suddenly, a shadow passed overhead.
“Did you see that bat?” someone asked.
He stopped mid-swing.
“Yeah. That one definitely wasn’t part of the game.”
A couple nearby laughed nervously.
“I don’t mind watching someone swing a bat,” one said,
“but I draw the line at a bat flying that close.”
As the sun dipped lower, he packed up his bat.
“Time to go,” he said. “One bat per visit is enough.”
