International & NGO Work
The Situation
You are asked to join a meeting without advance notice. You were told it involves “a program concern,” but no details were shared.
From the introduction, you learn that questions were raised about how a program was implemented in another country. There may be concerns related to communication, expectations, or local coordination, but nothing has been formally reported.
A program director is present. Someone from compliance or donor relations is listening. Your supervisor is observing closely.
You were involved in the program, but you don’t yet know which location, partner, or decision is being questioned. You are expected to respond thoughtfully and professionally. Hesitation or vague answers may raise concern.
Your Task
Respond immediately and carefully.
You do not have all the details, but you are still required to respond.
Be mindful of cultural context and avoid assumptions.
Questions
“Can you explain your role in this program?”
“When did you last communicate with local partners?”
“What expectations were set at the start?”
“Was anything unclear during implementation?”
“Who was responsible for on-the-ground coordination?”
“Were local concerns raised at any point?”
“How were decisions communicated across teams?”
“Did timelines or resources change?”
“Was support provided as planned?”
“Who monitored progress?”
“Are you saying the program was implemented correctly?”
“Why might concerns be surfacing now?”
“Could cultural differences have played a role?”
“What would you clarify if you could?”
“How should this be addressed moving forward?”
“Is there anything you want to clarify right now?”
“What support would help prevent this?”
“Do you feel communication was effective?”
“Is there anything we should review?”
“Is there something we should be concerned about?”
