Planning the Weekend
READ
A free weekend can fill up quickly. Someone wants to visit a friend, buy groceries, clean the kitchen, and spend some time outside. By Friday evening, there may already be more ideas than available hours. Some people make a schedule, while others prefer to decide what to do as the weekend unfolds.
A plan can help people fit necessary tasks around activities they enjoy. Making arrangements early can also make it easier to meet friends whose schedules are busy. Without a plan, an important errand might be forgotten or left until everything is about to close.
However, a detailed schedule can make free time feel like another workday. An activity may take longer than expected, or someone may simply want to rest. Following a plan too closely can leave little room for an interesting invitation or a change in the weather.
There are also ways to plan loosely. A person might choose one main activity for each day and leave the remaining time open. Another person might finish errands first and make no other arrangements. The amount of planning people enjoy often depends on how busy their usual week is and what they hope to get from their time away from daily responsibilities.
VIEWPOINT ONE
I enjoy my weekend more when I have a basic plan. Otherwise, I spend too much time deciding what to do and end up doing very little. I don't schedule every hour, but I like knowing which activities matter most to me.
VIEWPOINT TWO
I already follow a schedule all week, so I want my weekend to feel different. I'll make plans if someone else is involved, but I prefer to leave most of my time open. Changing my mind is part of enjoying a day off.
