Scenario 09
The Longer Stop
READ
Hannah, Joel, and Mei were driving to a town two hours away to visit a furniture showroom. Hannah drove, Joel planned the route, and Mei had made an appointment with a staff member who could explain several products. They agreed to share the cost of gas.
Halfway through the trip, Joel mentioned a used bookstore twenty minutes from the main road. He wanted to look for a particular book and suggested making a quick stop. Hannah enjoyed bookstores and thought the idea sounded pleasant. Mei reminded them that their appointment began at eleven.
Joel checked his phone and said they could probably arrive only a few minutes late. Mei had already asked the showroom to arrange a demonstration, and the staff member had another appointment afterward. Hannah said the showroom was open all afternoon, so perhaps someone else could help them.
Mei had brought measurements and a list of questions for the demonstration. Joel pointed out that he might not visit this area again for months. The exit for the bookstore was approaching, and Hannah asked him which lane she needed. Mei's phone displayed a reminder to check in ten minutes before the appointment. Joel was still looking at the bookstore's opening hours.
