Healthcare Support
The Situation
You are asked to step into a meeting at the beginning of your shift. You were told it concerns “a patient matter,” but no details were shared.
From the opening explanation, you learn that a concern was raised about patient care during the previous shift. No harm was reported, but there are questions about communication and follow-up.
A nurse supervisor is present. Someone from administration is taking notes. Your manager is listening quietly. You worked during that shift, but you don’t yet know which patient or moment is being discussed. You are expected to respond calmly and clearly. Hesitation or emotional reactions may raise concern.
Your Task
Respond immediately and professionally.
You do not have all the information, but you are still required to respond.
Be careful not to speculate or assign blame.
Questions
“Were you involved in this patient’s care?”
“When did you last interact with the patient?”
“What information did you have at the time?”
“Was anything unusual noted during your shift?”
“Were concerns communicated to the next team?”
“Did you follow the care plan as outlined?”
“Who else was involved in this situation?”
“Was any documentation completed?”
“Were there any changes in the patient’s condition?”
“Did you report everything that needed follow-up?”
“Are you saying the care provided was appropriate?”
“Could anything have been handled differently?”
“Why wasn’t this addressed sooner?”
“What decisions were made under pressure?”
“How would you approach this situation again?”
“What steps would you take to prevent confusion?”
“Is there anything you want to clarify right now?”
“What support would have helped you?”
“Do you feel communication was clear?”
“Is there anything else we should review?”
