The Late Meeting

David looked at the clock and sighed. “The meeting was supposed to start ten minutes ago.” He tapped his pen against the table and glanced at the empty doorway. Lena closed her laptop slowly and looked around the room. “I think the manager is running late again,” she said. A few others checked their phones, waiting without saying much.

David leaned back in his chair. “This keeps happening. It throws everything off,” he said quietly. Lena nodded. “Did anyone get a message?” David checked again. “No, nothing yet.” A man across the table shrugged. “Maybe something came up.” David looked at him. “It always comes up right before this meeting.”

A few minutes passed before the door finally opened. Mark walked in quickly. “Sorry, everyone. I got held up.” David sat up. “Are we still covering everything?” Mark paused and looked at his notes. “We might need to cut a few things.” Lena glanced at David again but didn’t say anything.
