ESSENTIAL is designed for learners who can read everyday English texts and understand familiar topics. Students strengthen comprehension skills while developing greater independence as readers.

• 80–100: You demonstrate strong skills at this level and may be ready for PROGRESSIVE Readers.

• 50–79: You are developing many of the skills needed at this level but may need additional practice.

• 0–49: Continue working through ESSENTIAL materials before moving forward.
