WHAT IS STEPS LEVEL

STEPS is designed for absolute beginners who are just starting to learn English. Students at this level learn the English alphabet, letter sounds, basic vocabulary, and simple sentence patterns. Lessons focus on building a strong foundation for future reading and communication skills.

LEVEL RESULTS

• 80–100: You demonstrate strong skills at this level and may be ready for FIRST Readers.

• 50–79: You are developing many of the skills needed at this level but may need additional practice.

• 0–49: Continue working through STEPS materials and activities to build a stronger foundation.

LEVEL NEXT STEPS

• Practice recognizing letters and sounds daily.

• Build your basic vocabulary.

• Read simple words and short phrases.

• Complete reading activities and quizzes.

• Practice sentence patterns regularly.

• Review areas identified as weak on your quiz.
