Scenario 21
The Walking Group
READ
Every Wednesday, four neighbors met for a walk after work. They usually followed a short route and stopped near a pond before returning home. The group had begun as a casual way to spend time together. Nobody had been officially responsible for choosing the pace or the route.
Recently, Theo had started preparing for a longer walking event. He wanted the group to move faster and add another mile. Sasha liked the original route because she had limited time before an evening class. Morgan enjoyed a slower pace that allowed everyone to talk. The fourth neighbor, Alex, was interested in trying something different.
Theo sent a map of a new route and said it would make better use of their walking time. Sasha replied that she would need to leave halfway through. Morgan said the faster pace would make conversation difficult. Alex suggested starting earlier, but Theo could not leave work sooner.
At the next meeting, Theo arrived wearing a watch set to track the walk. Morgan was telling Sasha about a new project and had not looked at the map. Alex pointed toward the path that led to the longer route. The group stood at the entrance, where the two paths separated around a row of trees.
THINK AND RESPOND
What would you do?
If you could offer advice to one of the characters, who would it be and why?
