Checking In at a Hotel
Intro Recording:
“You and your friend are checking into a hotel. Your friend does not speak proper English, so you will help translate, correct their English, and speak politely to the hotel staff.”
After each recording, the student responds naturally.
STAFF: “Good afternoon! Welcome. Do you have a reservation with us?”
→ Student responds.
FRIEND: “What she say? Reservation what mean?”
→ Student corrects the English + explains.
STAFF: “May I have your name, please?”
→ Student responds.
STAFF: “Can I also see a photo ID and a credit card for the deposit?”
→ Student responds.
FRIEND: “Why they need card? We already pay. You ask why card?”
→ Student corrects the English + explains policy.
STAFF: “You’ll be staying for one night, correct?”
→ Student responds and translates.
FRIEND: “I no like high room. You ask lower floor?”
→ Student corrects the English + asks staff.
STAFF: “Yes, we have a room available on the second floor.”
→ Student responds.
STAFF: “Would you prefer one bed or two?”
→ Student responds and translates.
FRIEND: “Room have fridge? I need put food cold.”
→ Student corrects English + asks staff.
STAFF: “Yes, all rooms come with a small refrigerator.”
→ Student responds.
STAFF: “Here are your room keys. Your room number is 214.”
→ Student responds.
FRIEND: “How go room? Elevator where?”
→ Student corrects English + asks for directions.
STAFF: “The elevator is straight ahead, to your left.”
→ Student responds and translates.
STAFF: “Breakfast is served downstairs from 6:30 to 10:00.”
→ Student responds.
FRIEND: “What breakfast? Free or we pay?”
→ Student corrects English + asks.
STAFF: “Breakfast is complimentary for all hotel guests.”
→ Student responds.
STAFF: “Please let us know if you need anything during your stay.”
→ Student responds politely.
STAFF: “Enjoy your stay!”
→ Student gives closing response.
