Freelance & Creative Work
The Situation
You are asked to join a call without much notice. You were told it involves “a project concern,” but no details were shared.
From the introduction, you learn that a client raised questions about a recent deliverable. They said the work did not fully match their expectations and mentioned confusion about revisions and scope.
A project manager is on the call. Someone from billing or contracts is taking notes. The client may be listening, but this hasn’t been confirmed. You worked on several parts of the project, but you don’t yet know which version or feedback is being discussed.
You are expected to respond clearly and confidently. Hesitation may be interpreted as uncertainty or lack of professionalism.
Your Task
Respond immediately and professionally.
You do not have all the details, but you are still required to respond.
Avoid sounding defensive or dismissive of the client’s perspective.
Questions
“Can you explain your understanding of the project scope?”
“Which version of the work is being referenced?”
“What instructions did you receive at the start?”
“Were revisions discussed or agreed upon?”
“When was feedback last provided?”
“Did you feel expectations were clear?”
“How did you prioritize the client’s requests?”
“Was anything outside the original scope?”
“Who approved the previous version?”
“Was the timeline realistic?”
“Are you saying the work meets the agreement?”
“Why might the client feel unsatisfied?”
“Could communication have been clearer?”
“What would you say to the client right now?”
“How should this be resolved?”
“Is there anything you want to clarify?”
“What support would help prevent this?”
“Do you feel the agreement was followed?”
“Is there anything we should review?”
“Is there something we should be concerned about?”
